This watch is accompanied by an extract from the jlc archives.

"A watch-tool in its own right, the Geophysic E168 Chronometer was created in 1958 during the official International Geophysical Year, an international scientific project lasting from July 1, 1957 to December 31, 1958 in which 67 nations took part in the scientific exploration of our planet. the most inhospitable and unexplored places on earth. It also marked the end of a long Cold War period, when scientific exchanges between East and West had come to a serious halt. Aimed at explorers and scientists, the Geophysic had a Bauhaus-inspired style, with no absurd dial optimized for telling the time. Its chronometer movement (quite rare for the brand at the time) featured a hacking central seconds hand, a special setting system for easy adjustment, and a Glucydur balance. The movement was also protected by an anti-magnetic soft-iron inner case, making it resistant to 600 Gauss - perfect for researchers working on polar bases, in laboratories and inside submarines. A proud moment in the brand's history, since it was used on the first (three-day) coast-to-coast immersion by the most direct route, under the ice cap covering the Arctic. Why did their crew use the E168? It's an ultra-precise chronometer (Cal. 478BWSbr) housed in a robust steel case with an additional inner case to protect the movement from the effects of magnetism.
At a ceremony on December 16, 1958, two geophysical watches were presented by the citizens of Geneva to submarine commanders William r. Anderson and j. f. Calvert to commemorate their successful crossing of the North Pole on board their submarines in August 1958.
Jaeger LeCoultre launched a "Tribute to Geophysics" in 2014, but this original geophysical reference E168 is one of the most coveted chronometer watches for discerning collectors."

The watch is in very good condition for its age.
The watch is delivered with its original "spontnik" case and with its extract from the Jaeger LeCoultre archives.

We provide a 12-month warranty.
